MT340 Conflict Management and Team Dynamics sample papers, unit by unit

Teams do not fail from too much disagreement; they fail from the wrong kind. MT340 sample papers separate conflict about the work from conflict about the people, and treat a team's process as something a manager designs.

How this shelf works

Send the exact assignment or rubric from your classroom and a custom sample written to it lands in 24 to 48 hours, the first one free. MT340 is Purdue Global’s Conflict Management and Team Dynamics course. It centers on diagnosing what a team is actually fighting about, and designing a process that survives the disagreement. Searches like "mt 340 unit 4 assignment example", "MT340 sample paper", and "MT340 unit samples" land on this page.

What MT340 is really about

The distinction this course turns on is between disagreement over the work and disagreement between people, and the two behave in opposite directions. Argument about a decision usually improves it; argument about who is careless or unreasonable degrades everything around it, including the ability to argue productively about the work. Assessments generally supply a team in trouble and expect that separation before any remedy is proposed. Papers that treat all conflict as a problem to reduce end up recommending harmony, which produces teams that agree quickly and decide badly. The stronger reading asks which kind is present, whether there is enough of the useful sort, and what in the team's arrangements converted one into the other.

Process is the other half and it is where recommendations either land or float. A team argues badly for structural reasons more often than temperamental ones: no agreed way to decide, no one accountable for closing a debate, a schedule that makes disagreement expensive, a member whose objection has nowhere to go. Naming those is actionable in a way that naming a difficult colleague is not. Where an assessment involves a virtual or cross-functional team, the criteria usually expect the added constraint addressed specifically, since distance and competing functional loyalties change how a disagreement surfaces and how long it takes anyone to notice.

What MT340’s assessments ask for

Opening units generally establish conflict types and ask you to classify episodes from your own experience, which is harder than it reads because most real conflicts contain both kinds. Middle assignments typically supply a team scenario and ask for a diagnosis before a remedy, with the structural causes distinguished from the interpersonal ones. Negotiation appears in most sections, sometimes as a prepared position with a stated walk-away point. Several units cover team development and the arrangements that let disagreement happen safely. Later work often asks for an intervention plan aimed at process rather than personnel. A board thread accompanies each unit, generally asking what disagreement a team you belong to keeps avoiding.

Where students lose points in MT340

Recommending better communication is the reliable way to lose marks here, because it names no mechanism and could be written without reading the case. Diagnosing personality where the scenario supplied a structural cause costs similarly. Papers that treat the absence of conflict as health miss the course's central claim and usually propose reinforcing the very silence the case was built to expose. Negotiation answers arrive weak when no walk-away point is stated, since a position with no floor is a preference. Deductions also follow from interventions requiring authority the writer does not have, and from accounts where every member is named except the one writing. A last one comes from plans that schedule a difficult conversation without saying who opens it, which is usually why it never happens.

Using a MT340 sample the right way

Take a sample and read only its diagnosis, stopping before the remedy. Decide for yourself whether the team is arguing about the work or about each other, then read on and see whether the writer drew the same line. Where a recommendation appears, ask what mechanism it changes, since anything that would work equally well in any team is doing nothing in this one. Then write about a team you sit in, including your own part in how it argues. The first one is on us, written against whatever brief and marking criteria your unit posted, returned in 24-48h.

How these samples are written

Every sample in this binder is written the way the custom ones are: the rubric decoded row by row, a subject-matched writer drafting to the top band, formatting checked line by line. Purdue Global revises courses; a custom request is always written to the rubric in YOUR classroom, never from a stale template.

MT340 questions, answered

Is some conflict really desirable in a team?

Disagreement about the work is, and teams that avoid it tend to decide worse than teams that argue. What damages performance is conflict that becomes personal. Assessments frequently supply a group that gets along and produces poor decisions, precisely to see whether harmony is mistaken for health.

What if the real problem is one person?

Ask why the team tolerates it. Behavior persists because norms permit it, no one owns the decision to address it, or the structure gives that person leverage. Those are causes a manager can change. Naming the individual and stopping leaves the paper with a diagnosis nobody can act on.

How specific should a negotiation plan be?

Specific enough to have a floor. State your opening position, what you would trade, what matters more to them than to you, and the point past which you walk away. Plans without that last element read as hoping for a good outcome rather than preparing for a real exchange.
