GF599 Graduate Capstone in Finance sample papers, unit by unit

Reviewed by Chester Goodwin, MBA Graduate Capstone in Finance Purdue University Global Free custom samples in 24–48h

The graduate project is judged as work a firm could commission. GF599 samples scope a question worth answering, defend the method chosen against the ones rejected, and end with something a finance function could put into practice.

How this shelf works

Send the exact assignment or rubric from your classroom and a custom sample written to it lands in 24 to 48 hours, the first one free. GF599 is Purdue Global’s Graduate Capstone in Finance course. It centers on producing an independent applied finance project whose method is defended and whose recommendation an organization could implement without a rewrite. What GF599 is really about

A graduate project is commissioned work rather than an extended assignment, and the difference shows up first in scoping. Nobody hands you the question. You choose an organization and a problem, argue that the problem is worth the term, and prove the data to answer it can actually be obtained, which is where most weak projects fail before they begin. Ambition is the usual trap: a question about the whole capital structure of a public company cannot be answered properly in ten units, while a question about whether one division's inventory financing is priced correctly can. Faculty read the scoping section for evidence that you understood the difference.

The second difference is that method is argued rather than announced. At this level a reader expects to see what you considered and discarded, and why discounted cash flow beat a multiples approach for this particular subject, or why a survey was the wrong instrument for a question about pricing behavior. A method presented without alternatives reads as the only technique its author knew. The deliverable carries the same standard. It should be usable by the finance function it was written for, which means an implementation path, a cost, an owner and a way to tell whether it worked, rather than a conclusion stopping at what the organization ought to consider.

What GF599’s assessments ask for

Early units generally require a topic proposal and then a defense of it, with the organization named, the question narrowed and data access confirmed rather than assumed. A literature or industry review typically follows, expected to argue toward a method instead of cataloging what has been written. Middle units in many sections deliver the analysis in stages, with the model or dataset submitted alongside the writing so the work can be inspected. Later units usually take up limitations, ethics and the treatment of anything the organization considers confidential. Final units commonly assemble the report and add a presentation for a nonspecialist audience. Discussion boards often serve as peer review of methods in progress, and seminar hours tend to function as advising sessions.

Where students lose points in GF599

The dominant loss at this level is a project scoped too widely to finish, which produces breadth where the criteria wanted depth and evidence. Second is method by assertion, where a technique is applied without a word about what else was available. Third is a recommendation an organization could not act on, correct in its analysis and silent on cost, sequence and ownership. Ground is also surrendered for data whose provenance is unstated, for limitations written as a formality rather than as an honest account of what the work cannot support, for a review section summarizing sources while arguing nothing, and for confidential figures used in a way the supplying organization would not have agreed to.

Using a GF599 sample the right way

Read the scoping section of a sample and ask whether that question could be answered in a term with the data described; that judgment is the one the criteria test hardest. Then check the method section for the alternatives it names and rejects, since a defended choice reads completely differently from an announced one. Look at whether the closing recommendation has an owner, a cost and a test attached to it. Then scope your own, because a project is defined by the organization it serves. The opening project example is unbilled and shaped by the firm, the question and the criteria you supply, and it reaches you within 24-48h.

How these samples are written

Every sample in this binder is written the way the custom ones are: the rubric decoded row by row, a subject-matched writer drafting to the top band, formatting checked line by line. Purdue Global revises courses; a custom request is always written to the rubric in YOUR classroom, never from a stale template.

GF599 questions, answered

How do I choose a subject organization?

Pick one where you can get figures, which usually means your employer or a listed company with full filings. Access decides feasibility more than interest does. A fascinating question about a private firm that will not share numbers becomes a term of estimates, and estimates cannot carry a recommendation anyone acts on.

How much of the report should be background?

Enough to justify the method and no more. Background earns its place when it eliminates approaches or supplies a benchmark you later use. Sections summarizing a dozen sources and then proceeding as though none of them had been read are among the most reliably marked down parts of a project.

What should I do about confidential company data?

Ask before you use it, and agree what can appear. Ratios, indexed figures and disguised segment names usually preserve the analysis while protecting the source. Say in the report what was masked and why, so a reader can judge the evidence without being handed something the organization never released.
