BU224 Microeconomics sample papers, unit by unit

Reviewed by Chester Goodwin, MBA Microeconomics Purdue University Global Free custom samples in 24–48h

Microeconomics rewards the student who can say why a firm chose what it chose. BU224 samples put the curves to work on pricing, entry and cost decisions, then explain the choice in language a manager would recognize.

How this shelf works

Send the exact assignment or rubric from your classroom and a custom sample written to it lands in 24 to 48 hours, the first one free. BU224 is Purdue Global’s Microeconomics course. It centers on explaining a firm's pricing, output and entry decisions through the cost and demand conditions it faces. What BU224 is really about

BU224 is the course where graphs stop being decoration. Nearly every assessment supplies or asks for a diagram, and the marks are not for drawing it: they are for the sentence underneath saying what moved, in which direction, and what the firm did in response. A shifted curve with no explanation is worth very little, while a plain sketch paired with a clear account of the mechanism usually scores well. Students who struggle here are typically strong on the shapes and vague on the story. The habit worth building early is to narrate every diagram out loud, naming the actor, the change and the consequence, because that narration is what the criteria are written to find.

Cost structure is the other half, and it drives more of the grade than most students expect. Fixed and variable costs behave differently as output changes, so a recommendation that ignores which is which will be wrong in a way a grader can point at. The classic trap is the sunk cost: an assignment sets up a decision where past spending is irrelevant, and answers that factor it in are marked down whatever else they get right. Market structure sits on top of all of this. The same cost curve supports different pricing under competition than under concentration, and assessments frequently test whether you noticed which structure the scenario described.

What BU224’s assessments ask for

Early units generally ask for supply and demand analysis on a described market, where you identify what shifted and distinguish it from movement along a curve. Middle units usually turn to the firm, asking you to work with cost schedules and to say at what output the firm should operate and why. Market structure units in many sections give a scenario and ask you to classify it, then to predict pricing behavior from that classification. Discussion boards commonly ask for an example from your own working life that fits the unit's concept, while seminar sessions often work a numerical problem together, with a written alternative for those who cannot attend live.

Where students lose points in BU224

Points go first to the shift-versus-movement error, because it is unambiguous and it inverts the whole answer that follows. They go next to the firm that maximizes revenue rather than profit, an easy slip when cost data is present but not used. Sunk costs treated as relevant cost most of the remaining marks, since assignments plant them deliberately. Smaller deductions come from diagrams with unlabeled axes, from classifying a market by how many firms are named in the scenario rather than by the conditions described, and from recommendations that stop at the calculation without saying what the firm should actually do on Monday morning. Answers also lose ground when they carry a textbook example through unchanged instead of working the scenario in front of them, which a grader spots quickly because the numbers never quite fit.

Using a BU224 sample the right way

Work through a sample with the diagram covered. If the prose alone tells you what happened and why, the writing is doing its job, and that is the standard your own submission is held to. Then uncover the figure and check that it agrees with the words, because mismatches between the two are among the easiest deductions a grader makes. Watch also for how the sample handles cost data it was given but does not need. Then rebuild the analysis on your own unit's scenario, where the numbers and the market will differ. Your opening example, matched to that scenario, carries no charge and comes back within two days.

How these samples are written

Method, in one line: rubric first, structure from the rubric, evidence current, format exact. Discussion samples read like real posts; unit assignments arrive in submission form. Your free request is drafted against what your classroom actually shows.

BU224 questions, answered

How much drawing do I actually have to do?

Enough to support the argument, and no more. A clean hand-drawn figure with labeled axes and a marked equilibrium is fully acceptable in most sections; elaborate software graphics earn nothing extra. What does earn marks is the paragraph that reads the diagram aloud, naming what shifted and what the firm did about it.

Why do I keep losing marks when my calculations are right?

Usually because the calculation answered a question the assignment did not ask. Working out a firm's revenue when the criteria wanted its profit-maximizing output is arithmetically correct and analytically off target. Read what decision the scenario needs made, then choose the computation that informs it rather than the one the unit most recently covered.

Can an example be matched to my own unit scenario?

Yes. Send the posted instructions, the rubric and whatever cost schedule or market description your section supplied, and the example is built against those. Working from your own figures matters more here than in most courses, because the recommendation depends entirely on the cost structure the scenario gave you.
